Before adding more activity

Three questions for work that has stopped moving.

When a project loses momentum, the instinct is often to do more. More meetings. More outreach. More content. More people. Activity is visible, and being busy can feel reassuring when the next step is uncertain.

But activity can multiply around a question nobody has answered. A team can work harder without becoming clearer about what it is trying to change. Before adding another task, I find it useful to slow the conversation down.

What are we actually trying to change?
Describe the difference you want to make in terms someone outside the project could understand. Launching a website is an activity. Helping the right people understand an offer and take a useful next step is a change. The distinction affects what you build and how you judge whether it works.

What is preventing the next meaningful step?
Try to name the obstacle precisely. Perhaps the direction is unclear. Perhaps the direction is understood but nobody has capacity. Perhaps several people are contributing, yet nobody owns the decision between them. Each situation calls for a different response.

Who can make the decision or contribution that step requires?
Some constraints need a decision from the founder. Others need a specialist, a customer conversation or an introduction. Asking who can help makes the next step more concrete, especially when responsibility has become scattered.

Consider a hypothetical launch that keeps slipping. Commissioning more promotional material will do little if the offer itself is unresolved. A short decision about who the offer serves may unlock more progress than a week of production. Once that decision is made, production becomes useful again.

Bring these three questions into your next project conversation. Write the answers in plain language. End by agreeing one step, who will own it and when you will check what happened. You are looking for enough clarity to act, then learn from the result.

This is often where my advisory work begins: understanding the whole situation before deciding what it needs. When the direction is clear and capacity is the constraint, MR. FIX can help bring the relevant people, tools and coordination around the work.
